Share

Residents travelling to and from Dangriga via any of the domestic airlines will have to allot extra time for their travel. This is because the runway at the airstrip will be undergoing repairs shortly. According to Public Relations Officer at the Dangriga Town Council, Kenrick Francisco, the airstrip will be closed effective Monday May fourth to facilitate the rehabilitation of the runway. The Ministry of Tourism and Civil Aviation made a commitment last year to upgrade all the runways across countrywide. The rehabilitation works is being funded by the Belize Airports Authority, the Ministry of Tourism and Civil Aviation and COCESNA at a cost of almost five hundred thousand Belize dollars. During the duration of the repairs the domestic airlines will be using the Melinda Airstrip. Works on the runway is expected to be completed within three to four weeks time. The respective airlines will also be providing transportation to and from the Melinda Airstrip.
