World renowned Ramon’s Village has embarked on a very positive community project that sees the adoption of the Boca del Rio Park. The park, which has been gradually deteriorating, will see a significant facelift which will be conducted in different phases. The estimated cost of the investment by the time the Boca del Rio Park is fully renovated will be in the vicinity of $50,000.
The project will see the renovation of the basketball court, the installation of bleachers, construction of picnic tables, improvements to the playground and beautification. Â Einer Gomez, General Manager of Ramon’s Village explained, “We noticed the deterioration of the park and decided to adopt the park.” Â Shortly after approaching the former San Pedro Town Council, plans were made to first address the issue of the basketball court. New backboards where ordered and made in Belize City by a local artist. The backboards were installed and the court has a fresh coat of paint. Gomez explained that currently they are looking at installing bleachers and are considering whether to construct them from aluminum or wood.
The other phases will see the construction of small thatch palapas, construction of picnic tables and improvements to the playground. Ramon’s Village is also accumulating plant clippings for beautification purposes around the park. “We want to improve the park and keep the integrity of it. However, as a community we need to understand to respect each other and each other’s property including those that are public property. We need to embrace the project and ensure that we take care of the park,” said Gomez.
When asked if there were any other public projects that Ramon’s Village will be embarking on in the near future, Gomez stated, “We would really like to complete the renovation of the Boca del Rio Park and see how it works before we embrace another project.” Â Gomez ended by explaining that Ramon’s Village is very excited with the partnership made with the San Pedro Town Council to adopt the Boca del Rio Park. Gomez encourages those using the park to take good care of it because the investment was made for the people in an effort to improve the area and make it a better place for all to enjoy.
