NEMO holds appreciation dinner for volunteers concluding the 2012 Hurricane Season

The National Emergency Management Organization (NEMO) in collaboration with the Minister of Tourism/Culture and Chairperson of the Emergency Operations Committee (EOC), Hon. Manuel Heredia; Mayor Daniel Guerrero, Mayor of San Pedro and Deputy EOC Chairperson and Mr. Brian Cook of Fido’s Restaurant, hosted a “Thank You” dinner event on Friday, December 7th. The dinner was held at the end of 2012 hurricane season as a token of appreciation to all volunteers and supporters of NEMO in the Belize Rural South who assisted throughout the season.

The social started at 5PM upstairs of Fido’s Courtyard and saw the gathering of over 20 public officers and volunteers from the various Government Offices in San Pedro as well as Non-Governmental Organizations. Speaking at the event was

Jeromey Timrose Augustine, District Emergency Coordinator, who offered much thanks to everyone present for their continued support of NEMO and expressed a desire to continue to work closely towards assuring the safety of lives and property of residents on both Ambergris Caye and Caye Caulker. Further to this, she extended appreciation to Brian Cook and Fido’s Courtyard for providing the venue for most of the NEMO trainings throughout the year.

Cook expressed his delight in giving back to the community he lives in and promised to continue to support NEMO in as many ways as possible. Throughout the course of the evening, each member had the opportunity to express their thoughts on the hurricane season and the work and training they have done with NEMO. Individuals spoke of the aspects they were pleased with and in some instances, made recommendations of how NEMO and the Ministry could work towards making volunteering more desirable.
Beverages and delicious finger foods were provided for all present to indulge in.
Timrose added, “On behalf of the National Emergency Management Organization and the Belize Rural South Special Emergency Committee, I would like to say thanks to the following person/businesses for their outstanding contribution and support throughout the year 2012. Public officers, the private sector, Fido’s Courtyard (Brian Cook), San Pedro Town Council, San Pedro Town/Caye Caulker Emergency Operation Center (EOC) Chairperson/members, Hon. Manuel Heredia, Belize Tourism Board, The Belize Red Cross, The School Safety Program through the Ministry of Education , Jose Zuniga (USAID), Victoria House, Grand Belizean Estates, Reef Radio, The San Pedro Sun, Ambergris Today, owner of Caye Caulker Island Magic (Roger Saldivar), the San Pedro Tourist Guide Association (Steven Bowen), Emir Gasper, Clive Welsh, Caye Caulker Water Taxi, San Pedro Belize Express, Atlantic Bank and Scotia Bank. Thanks once again for your support as we continue to prepare and build our community capacity to minimize and reduce risk.”
