San Pedro’s football enthusiasts came out the Saca Chispas Football Field on Sunday, April 27th to participate in a football marathon, namely the Elito Arceo Cup, hosted by Ernildo Jones. The marathon was sponsored by Elito Arceo, Dr. Geovanni Solorzano and Councilor Wally Nuñez. The games commenced around noon, and by 8PM the winning teams were being awarded a trophy and prizes. It was certainly a day of fun and love for the sport.
Football Marathon Elito Arceo Cup-1Games for the day were divided into categories for children, females and males. The first set of games was between the two teams in the children’s category: San Mateo and San Pedrito. The teams comprised of children under the age of 14 and they played a good match, playing defensively and forcing the game to enter into penalty rounds. After the penalty round, San Pedrito defeated San Mateo, for which they were given a trophy for their win.

The next game was between the female teams of Island Girls and Jaguars. These ladies definitely brought their A-game, and after a long hard-fought match, the Island Girls took the win with a 2-1 final score. Island Girls were awarded a trophy for their keep.
The final set of games for the day was featured the male teams. Taking to the field first were Tigersharks and FC United. It was a close, match but the Tigersharks managed to out edge the competition and scored the final winning goal, ending the game 2-1. The Tigersharks then took on the Blabaso Boys. With the adrenalin still pumping from their previous win, the Tigersharks were in the zone and easily defeated the Blabaso Boys in a 5-2 point game. The winning Tigersharks were awarded a trophy and $300 for their hard work.
