Man VS. Macho Burger

Share

Five pounds of food to be eaten in one hour: two pounds of meat, cheese, bacon, lettuce, tomatoes, onions, one humongous homemade burger bun, plus a pound of fries on the side. That was the challenge that Elvi’s Kitchen chef Jennie Staines put forth. There were many brave souls signing up. After all, Chef Jennie’s food is amazing. Who could pass it up?!

On Saturday, September 13th, at around 5PM, a group of brave men (where were the ladies?!) gathered in an attempt to take down the massive Macho burger. There was a prize of $200 gift certificate to Elvi’s Kitchen, but more than that, it was a chance to get on the hall of fame. Who could pass up bragging rights?! Not these guys!

When the massive burgers began arriving, there were a few looks of consternation. They certainly looked bigger in person than on the flyers! Oops.

To the loud cheers and chants, 10 brave souls dug into the giant burgers, each trying to finish it up before the hour is up. The first fifteen minutes was a breeze, and the majority managed to chow down nearly half their burgers, but then it became an uphill climb. By the time the half hour mark had passed, a few simply nibbled. Three brave souls continued decimating the entire burger, and by minute 40, they had mere crumbs left. But the real challenge lay ahead: the fries. One challenger waved the platter away, giving up his attempt.

The crowd kept pushing for the trio who had come so close to finishing, but by the time the hour was up, the fries were still on the plates, and the Macho Burger had won once again.

For their efforts however, Shelby, Shawn and Mike were awarded with gift certificates. So close, yet so far.
Elvi’s had quite a few prizes to give away for the night, so following up the Macho Burger competition was a hot wing eating contest, and the ladies were up to the challenge. Taking the prize was Christel, who despite the spicy heat, managed to clean up her plate properly in under two minutes!Elvis Kitchen 2014 Macho Burger Challenge-33

This contest was followed up by the Junior burger competition. Half the size of the Macho, the Machito was still a hefty two-and-a-half pounder with a side of fries. One brave young lady and eight young men sat down to devour their burgers. There was no doubt that this competition would see a winner, as buns, meat, and fries disappeared like lightning.

It was clear that the competition was between Gian and Jair, and to the loud cheers of the audience, both boys raced to finish. In the end, Gian took the top prize in just under 18 minutes, and was even ready for dessert! Perhaps he’ll qualify for the Macho Burgers next year!

With Belikin on board, there was even a Lighthouse Lager, Belikin Beer and Belikin Stout drinking contest to keep the entertainment going.
