Share

The San Pedro Town Library started their annual Reading Camp on Monday, July 27th. The camp will run for two weeks culminating on Friday, August 7th. Each week, the camp sees a different group of children involved in various activities with the assistance of volunteer teacher students from the University of North Carolina, USA.Reading Camp San Pedro Town Library-3
According to Senior Library Assistant Brianne Leiva, the reading program targets children between the ages of five to eight and nine to thirteen. The first week of the camp was designed for the younger students, while the older children participate in the second week. From 2PM to 4PM, children read, enjoy story-telling, and even do arts and crafts. Every day, they choose an animal that the children are familiar with, and then create reading activities around the said animal. In the first day, reading exercises were done involving a local friend of ours, the frog!Reading Camp San Pedro Town Library-2
The camp participants were supported by the teacher students, who took turns in leading the various activities such as arts and craft, singing, reading and story writing projects.Reading Camp San Pedro Town Library-1
This is the second reading camp for the year, and Leiva indicated that the turn out for this reading camp is better than the previous one. The San Pedro Library would like to thank everyone who made this year’s summer reading camp possible, and they look forward to continue having such educational events for the children throughout the year.
