Press Release – Government of Belize – Belmopan, 6th January, 2012 – In an effort to monitor and manage the imports/exports of refrigerant gases, the National Ozone Unit in the Department of the Environment hereby informs business establishments, and the general public, that importers/ exporters of refrigerant gases are now required to be registered by the Department of the Environment, Ministry of Natural Resources and the Environment. The objective is to strengthen compliance with commitments made to manage imports/ exports of refrigerant gases at Belize’s Port of Entries as per the Montreal Protocol on Substances that Deplete the Ozone Layer.
Please take note that the registration of companies importing/ exporting refrigerant gases is to be done prior to a license application for imports/ exports of these refrigerants. Certificates of registration issued by the Department of the Environment will be valid for one (1) calendar year (January to December) only. A non-refundable annual application fee of one hundred dollars ($100) will be payable to the Department, along with the application form. In addition, importers/ exporters of refrigerant gases are advised that upon the arrival of the goods to Belize, the Department of the Environment, in conjunction with the Customs and Excise Department, will conduct inspections on the refrigerant gases prior to them being released for entry.
