However, an out-of-season consumption project is presently being undertaken by the Belize Hotel Association, Belize Tourist Board and the Fisheries Department through a memorandum of Understanding (MOU).

    The hotels listed below have prepaid for a specified amount of lobster from a local fishermen cooperative.

    The product will be released in a timely, supervised manner. If, at any time, any of these hotels violate the terms of reference in the MOU, then the project is immediately terminated and a $5,000 fine, as well as the Fisheries fines and penalties will be applied to the offender.

    The entire remaining prepaid product will be impounded. The rest of the public should not have any lobster during the closed season.

    Participating hotels: The Inn at Robert's Grove, Ramon's Village, Capricorn Resort, Nautical Inn, Chateau Caribbean, Belize Biltmore Plaza, Rum Point Inn, Cayo Espanto, Hamanasi Resort, Radisson Fort George Hotel, Victoria House and Journey's End.
