A fire late on Wednesday evening partially damaged a structure at Captain Morgan’s Retreat on Ambergris Caye, located approximately two miles north of San Pedro Town. The fire, which originated from the lower flat of the VC-5A building on Captain Morgan’s Retreat, caused smoke, water and fire damages.
According to the Financial Controller and Assistant Manager of Captain Morgan’s, America Garcia, the fire appears to have started from an Air Condition unit. She explained that while fire officials were called to the scene, employees put out the fire by forming a bucket brigade and using a small fire extinguisher and water hose. Luckily no one was in the condo at the time of the fire.
According to police, the fire started sometime between 4:30 PM and 4:45 PM and was brought under control with 30 minutes. The condo was occupied by Richard Markowski and his wife, both Americans who were on the beach at the time of the fire. No one was hurt and both the Fire Officials and Police Department continues to investigate the fire. Most of the content inside the lower flat of the building was damaged and luckily the building was insured with R F & G Insurance Company.
