Statutory Instrument No. 68 of 1997, signed by the Hon. Russell
Garcia, Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries and included in the Belize
Government Gazette No. 34 of July 19, 1997, amended the Fisheries
Regulations as follows:
"2 (a) crawfish with a cape length of less than 3 inches may be taken in
the waters of Belize for aquaculture purposes under a special licence
granted by the Minister;
2 (b) crawfish that is berried, (has eggs), may be taken in the waters
of Belize for aquaculture purposes under a special licence granted by
the Minister.
3 (3) No person shall set or leave in the waters of Belize any lobster
traps between the 15th day of February and the 14th day of June,
inclusive, without a special permit granted by the Minister."
The licence granted to A&J Aquaculture (James Wang) by Minister
Russell Garcia of Fisheries and Agriculture on the 28th of April
specifically states that juvenile lobster shall not be collected during
the closed season and that berried (bearing eggs) females cannot be
collected.
