DFC wins Manuel Heredia Cup Under 17 football tournament

The Manuel Heredia Cup 2012 an Under 17 football tournament which commenced early in May came to an end over the past weekend. The tournament originally began with five teams and in the end, saw four teams going up for first, second and third place.
 Reaching the finals were: Strikers, DFC, Captain’s Casino and Blue Dolphin. At the end of the first round of tournaments, Strikers were in the lead with 13 points, while DFC followed with 10 points. At the lower end of the score board were: Captain’s Casino with six points and Blue Dolphin with five points.
On Saturday August 18th, top contenders Strikers and DFC went up in a home and away game with Strikers winning the first game in a score of 1 – 0. In the second game DFC won with a score of 4-0. As a result that game went into overtime, at the end of which DFC Carlos Soto managed to score the first goal, garnering them the championship.
On Saturday, September 8th, Captain’s Casino went up against Blue Dolphin in a game which saw Blue Dolphin victorious in a game of 4 – 2. This was followed by a friendly game between Champions, DFC and Strikers, which ended in a score of 1 – 0 in favor of DFC. Individual trophies were awarded to: Edgar Ramos and Emir Tzib who tied for the best goal scorer with 7 goals each; Most Valuable Player went to Nestor Cerpa; best goal keeper went to Justin Gutierrez while Luis Mencia was awarded for being the youngest player. Best Captain was also awarded a trophy which went to Jonathan Andino while Omar Moreno was awarded a trophy for best coach. Raul Gonzalez was recognized for being the best referee in the tournament and issued a trophy. First, second and third place trophies were awarded to the teams while medals were awarded to players of the first and second place teams.
Organizer, Fuljencio “Fully” Hoare has scheduled an all star game to be played on Saturday September 15th at 2:30pm at the Ambergris Stadium. Strikers will also go up against an Under 20 team in a friendly match. This is all leading up to the commencement of the Belize District Football Association -San Pedro Tournament. This tournament commences on September 29th. All teams and players are asked to register by Saturday September 15th. This tournament will decide which two teams will move on to represent the Belize District in the up coming Inter District competition scheduled to commence early next year.
