San Pedro’s Melvin Rolando Rauldares wins Gold at primary schools athletics championships

San Pedro Roman Catholic School’s Melvin Rolando Rauldares leapt 4.90 meters to win gold for the Belize district in the Junior C boys’ long jump at the annual national championship. The competition for primary school track and field championships is organized by the National Sports Council and was held at the Marion Jones Sports Complex in Belize City last Thursday, November 10.

Rauldares’ gold helped the Belize District win the most gold medals: 14, as well as six silver and five bronze. Stann Creek won eight gold, five silver and five bronze. The Cayo district won one gold, six silver and none bronze. Corozal won four silvers and four bronze; while Toledo won a gold and a silver. Orange Walk won a silver and a bronze.
Raldares had bested Toledo’s Joas Mejia by two centimeters. Mejia took the silver at 4.88m and Stann Creek’s Asauntaye Mejia claimed the bronze at 4.66m.
