Belize Celebrates Vaccination Week in the Americas and World Immunization Week

Belize joins the Region of the Americas in celebrating the 19th Vaccination Week in the Americas (VWA) and 10th World Immunization Week from April 24 to 30. This year’s slogan is “Vaccines bring us closer. #GetVax”. The theme highlights how vaccines bring us closer to family and friends and a world without suffering from diseases such as polio and measles.

Cabinet Brief for 28th April 2021

The Cabinet, chaired by the Prime Minister Hon. John Briceño, met in regular session on 27th April 2021. • Minister of the Public Service, Constitutional and Political Reform Hon. Henry Charles Usher informed the Cabinet that he wrote to the Joint Unions on 22nd April outlining Government’s position. • Cabinet was informed by Hon. Michel Chebat, Minister of Health & Wellness, that to date, 40,000 Belizeans have received their first dose of the AstraZeneca vaccination, which is in line with Government’s plan to ensure that 70% of Belizeans who wish to be vaccinated are vaccinated by September.

COVID-19 vaccine rollout sees large number of islanders getting the jab

The vaccine is being administered at the San Pedro Lions Den, where long lines of people have been observed. These people have pre-registered and were told when and at what time to show up for their first vaccine. The second dose of the vaccine is expected within eight or 12 after the first jab.

BCVI monthly eye exams to resume in San Pedro Town

The San Pedro Lions Club has announced the return of the monthly eye clinic offered by the Belize Council for the Visually Impaired (BCVI). The free eye screening service is available on the first Wednesday of the month on a first-come basis. The first clinic is May 5th, from 10:30AM to 3:30PM at the San Pedro Lions Den on Barrier Reef Drive.

Ian ‘Lion’ Gordon’s half-marathon tour around the country currently underway

Island-based runner Ian ‘Lion’ Gordon is currently conducting a historic sporting milestone. The long-distance athlete is running the country’s breadth and width in an eight-day half-marathon tour through all six districts, from Corozal to  Toledo.

Belize Tax Service Department requires businesses to update their accounts before a new system is implemented

A new and improved way to pay taxes is being introduced by the Belize Tax Service Department (BTSD) to allow online payments and better control of tax profiles and accounts. Many taxpayers paying Business, General Sales, and Income tax, among others, will be able to do so in a more organized and efficient way. The new system is set to start in August and will allow taxpayers to access their accounts and other e-services from anywhere in the world. As such, the BTSD is asking businesses to update their account information via applicable forms e-mailed to them. This information is to be e-mailed back to [email protected] by May 7, 2021.

San Pedro Lions Club installs new members

The San Pedro Lions Club is eight times stronger as of Sunday, April 25th, following an induction ceremony welcoming new members. Eight new Lions were sworn in at the Lions Den on Barrier Reef Drive in a short ceremony attended by island lions and special guests.

Asylum seekers, refugees, and migrants living in Belize to receive the COVID-19 vaccine

UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, and the Ministry of Health and Wellness announce to asylum seekers, refugees, and migrants living in Belize, that they can receive the COVID-19 vaccine.
