The women parliamentarians of the National Assembly convened a meeting earlier this week to discuss the establishment of the Belize Women Parliamentarians Caucus.

Hol Chan Marine Reserve’s Chairman provides update of their state and financial report

On Thursday, February 24th, the Chairman of the Hol Chan Marine Reserve (HCMR), Ian Pou, provided details of the organization’s current state, its finances, and how it has been recovering from the alleged mismanagement by the previous administration. The report also touched on the conditions HCMR’s equipment (vehicles and vessels) were left in and the questionable activities of certain staff members.

Redistricting process begins; What’s in it for Belize Rural South?

The process for possible redistricting in Belize has started and is to conclude before the end of 2023. A task force appointed by the Elections and Boundaries Commission will submit its recommendations to Parliament, potentially bringing changes to the different constituencies. San Pedro Town, Ambergris Caye, and Caye Caulker are under the third largest electoral division - Belize Rural South (BRS). As per local authorities, redistricting could bring changes. Still, it's too early to know how this exercise could modify the islands' constituency.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge: Prince William and Kate excited to visit Belize in March

On Thursday, February 24th, it was officially announced that Belize would be one of three Commonwealth nations the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, Prince William, and wife Kate Middleton will visit in their upcoming Caribbean tour starting March 19th. The Royal Highnesses are making these visits on behalf of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II for the Platinum Jubilee. The other countries they will visit include Jamaica and the Bahamas.

On Thursday, February 24th, Belize's Destiny Wagner, Miss Earth 2021, received a Hol Chan Marine Reserve donation in San Pedro Town towards her non-profit organization-Operation Kingdom. An effort dedicated to combating child hunger and equality in education.

Island Emergency Services render medical services to tourist at Hol Chan Marine Reserve

With the help of the Belize Coast Guard and Island Emergency Services (IES), a tourist experiencing a seizure during a snorkeling trip at the Hol Chan Marine Reserve was quickly evaluated and transported back to San Pedro Town for further medical treatment. The incident occurred on Thursday, February 24th, near midday.

Hol Chan Marine Reserve rebrands and launches marine station

A ceremony to celebrate the Hol Chan Marine Reserve's rebranding (HCMR) and the launching of its marine station was held on Thursday, February 24th, in San Pedro Town. The official event shared the state of the organization, revealed a new logo, and launched its marine station at sea. The occasion saw the presence of Prime Minister Honourable John Briceño, who, along with Area Representative Honourable Andre Perez and HCMR Chairman Ian Pou, shared with those in attendance that the island and the country have entered a new chapter in the administration of the oldest marine reserve in the nation.

Minister of Public Utilities Leads Official Delegation of Belize Port Authority Officials to Jamaica

Hon. Michel Chebat, Minister of Public Utilities, Energy, Logistics and E-governance, is leading an official delegation of Belize Port Authority officials to Jamaica. During the five-day visit, the delegation will meet with the Ministry of Transport & Mining, Maritime Authority of Jamaica (Admiral Peter Brady, Director General), Port Authority of Jamaica (Professor Gordon Shirley, President) and Caribbean Maritime University (Professor Evan Duggan, President).
