Local authorities to encourage water safety signs following fatal boating accident

Following the tragic boating accident on February 14th, which took the life of 17-year-old American teenage tourist Logan Ceylon Pratt, authorities in San Pedro, Ambergris Caye, are planning to enforce safety water measures to avoid future tragedies.

Women in Business course to empower young San Pedro ladies

On Monday, February 27th, a two-week training named 'Women in Business' was officially launched at the Hidden Treasure restaurant. The training will see several young ladies learning marketing skills, how to start a small business, and practice work ethics.

Peace Corps Belize signs MOU with Ministry of Youth, Sports, and Transport

On February 21st, 2023, Peace Corps/Belize and the Ministry of  Youth, Sports, and Transport signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to collaborate on a national priority area of youth development in Belize. Peace Corps Volunteers will work alongside Belizean counterparts to implement the project activities. The goal of the project is to help Belizean youth lead healthy and empowered lives to realize their full potential into adulthood. The project activities will focus on physical education and sports development through the National Primary School Sports Program of the National Sports Council. 

MoECST and IDB Tour Itz’at STEAM Academy

February 22, 2023, a delegation led by Prime Minister Hon. John Briceño, Hon. Francis Fonseca, Minister of Education, Culture, Science and Technology (MoECST); Dr. Hon. Louis Zabaneh, Minister of State in MoECST; and Dr. Ilan Goldfajn, President of the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), toured the construction site of the Itz’at STEAM Academy in Belize City.

Ministry of Public Service Engages with Transparency International on Corruption Perception Index

Since 2008, Belize has not been listed or ranked in the Transparency International Corruption Perception Index and has fallen short of active pursuit of the preparation to implement the United Nations Convention Against Corruption and the Organization of American States Anti-Corruption Convention. Recognizing this, Prime Minister Hon. John Briceño tasked the Ministry of Public Service, Constitutional & Political Reform and Religious Affairs, through its Good Governance Unit, with the mandate of bringing Belize up to readiness to implement anti-corruption measures, both nationally and internationally.

Ministry of Labour Launches Education Tour on Child Labour Policy Implementation

The Child Labour Education sessions are designed to advocate for and protect children’s rights and to foster collaboration with the private sector and other organizations in implementing Belize’s National Child Labour Policy and Strategy 2022-2025. The sessions also aim to prohibit the employment of children in certain occupations, regulate the working conditions of children in other occupations, and eradicate the worst forms of child labour in Belize by 2025.

GCF Continues to Support Climate Resiliency Development in Belize

The Ministry of Economic Development (MED), as Belize’s National Designated Authority (NDA) to the Green Climate Fund (GCF), and the Climate Finance Unit (CFU), announce that the GCF has approved a grant of BZ$2,974,060 for its Readiness and Preparatory Support Programme Proposal for “Enabling Activities for the Formulation and Implementation of a Multisectoral National Adaptation Plan for Belize.”
