GOB Continues to Improve Quality of Life and Strengthen National Security through Infrastructural Investments

On March 27, the Ministry of Economic Development, through its Project Execution Unit of the Belize Integral Security Programme, held a groundbreaking ceremony for infrastructural investments made to assist the Belize Defence Force (BDF) at the Price Barracks in Ladyville in the execution of their duties.

Belize Port Authority concludes investigation on tragic February boating accident on Ambergris Caye

An investigation by the Belize Port Authority into the death of 17-year-old American teenager Logan Ceylon Pratt, who was killed in a boating accident on February 14th, has concluded. The tragedy occurred off the northeast coast of San Pedro, Ambergris Caye, where the tourist teenager was hit by a boat.

San Pedro High School once again dominates the NSSSA national softball competition

San Pedro Town has always excelled in sports, and the San Pedro High School (SPHS) has contributed significantly by winning championships at the district and national levels. One of those disciplines is softball, which the island athletes continue to master. During the recent 2023 National Secondary School Sports Association (NSSSA) softball nationals, the SPHS male team (The Sharks) faced the best secondary schools from across the country, emerging victorious at the end of the challenging two-day tournament.

Saga Humane Society to host Open House

Saga Humane Society is pleased to announce an official OPEN HOUSE to be held this Saturday, April 1st, from 10am to 2pm at the Main Clinic on Seastar Street. This event is extremely necessary due to overcrowding at the shelter. There are currently an unprecedented amount of animals available for foster/adoption, namely 60 dogs and 78 cats in need of loving homes.

Ecomar launches Belize Barrier Reef Watch program

The non-profit organization Ecomar is engaging stakeholders in its Belize Barrier Reef Watch program to raise awareness about the need to protect Belize's marine resources. The project aims to monitor and help protect the barrier reef with the public's assistance.

Belize Receives COVID-19 Vaccines from the Netherlands

Last week, the Ministry of Health & Wellness received a donation of Pfizer Pediatric COVID-19 vaccines for children aged five to 11 from the people and Government of the Netherlands.

Launch of Blue Justice Caribbean Hub blazes new trail in global fight against fisheries crimes

The Blue Justice Caribbean Hub, a regional hub to strengthen cooperation and coordination in the use of innovation and digital technology to fight fisheries crimes, was launched on the occasion of the two-day International Blue Justice Conference 2023, which concluded today in UN City, Copenhagen, Denmark. The establishment of the Blue Justice Caribbean Hub in Jamaica is the latest in a series of advancements by the Caribbean Regional Fisheries Mechanism (CRFM) and its Member States in combating illegal, unreported, and unregulated fishing and transnational organized crime in the fishing industry.

San Pedro joins other countries in observing Earth Hour 2023

To continue advocating for a safer planet and teaching the young generations the importance of being responsible citizens, the San Pedro Town Council (SPTC) hosted the annual Earth Hour on Saturday, March 25th. The Honourable Louis Sylvestre Sporting Complex event involved an educational film, a bonfire, and an Earth Hour-theme competition.
