Annual Turkey Trot raises funds for Hope Haven

San Pedro Town started the Thanksgiving celebrations with the sixth annual Turkey Trot, held on Thursday, November 28th, at Boca del Rio Beach Park. The 5K (3.1 miles) run or walk raises funds for the island’s non-profit organization and orphanage, Hope Haven.

On Tuesday, November 26th, Belize Bank Limited unveiled its new brand icon during a nationwide event. This new digital icon symbolizes hope for the future and embodies the identity of the second oldest bank in Central America, illustrating its current position and future direction. The icon also reflects Belize Bank’s roots, purpose, and vision since its establishment in 1902.

Island Tourism Stakeholder take part in Sustainability as a Business Revaluation Workshop

On November 26th, in San Pedro Town, Riviera Maya Sostenible, a Mexico-based organization, partnered with the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) and the Belize Tourism Board (BTB) to host a workshop titled "Sustainability as a Business Revaluation Process" at the San Pedro Lions Club Den. The event aimed to support global sustainability goals by raising awareness and encouraging the local tourism industry to adopt sustainable practices. Promoting sustainability is essential for Belize's tourism sector, as it contributes to economic growth while safeguarding the environment and preserving cultural heritage.

Belizeans will be required to have an Electronic Travel Authorization to travel to the UK in 2025

Belizeans planning to travel to the United Kingdom (UK) in 2025 will be required to have an Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) starting January 8th. Applications opened on November 27th and can be completed through the UK government portal (https://shorturl.at/DhAeR) or the “UK ETA” mobile app. The ETA is required for short-term visits, including tourism, family visits, and business trips.

Kian Trejo participates in regional sports forum in the Dominican Republic

Island athlete Kian Trejo and cyclist Alicia Thompson represented Belize at the third Panam Sports Continental Athletes Forum, held from November 21-23 in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic. The event brought together 130 participants from 41 member countries to discuss various sports-related topics through conference sessions.

Team Reel Nauti conquers this year’s Overseas Fishing Rodeo

The second Overseas Fishing Rodeo, honoring Garifuna Settlement Day, was held on Sunday, November 24th, at Overseas Bar and Grill in the Boca del Rio Area. 18 teams participated in the day-long competition, where the best anglers vied for the grand prize. This year, the coveted trophy was awarded to Team Reel Nauti, who also caught the heaviest Wahoo, weighing 29.8 pounds. Team Reel Nauti brought in a total of four Wahoo, which contributed to their victory in the tournament.

The San Pedro Police investigating drowning incident at Central Park

On Monday, November 25th, San Pedro Police responded to an incident at the beach in front of the central park in downtown San Pedro. Upon arrival, they observed first responders attempting to resurrect a male identified as Manuel Choc, who was later pronounced dead. The police are currently investigating what appears to be a drowning.
