RE/MAX/Pirates defeat Gladiator to claim Softball Champions Title

Team RE/MAX/Pirates are the champions of the 2026 San Pedro Softball Tournament after defeating Team Gladiator in the championship game on June 14 at the Honorable Louis Sylvestre Sporting Arena. The finals also included a scheduled third-place game between the San Pedro High School Sharks and Team Marlins. However, the match did not take place after the Sharks failed to appear, resulting in the Marlins being awarded third place by default.

Isla Bonita Elementary honors 18 graduates in Class of 2026

The Isla Bonita Elementary School (IBES) celebrated its graduating Class of 2026 on Saturday, June 13th, during its 26th commencement exercise held at the Watermark Hotel. Family members, teachers, school officials, and friends gathered to honor the 18 students as they completed their primary school education and prepared to begin the next chapter of their academic journey.

Wingz Police United edge Sea Bulls FC winning $5K football prize

San Pedro’s Island League champions, Sea Bulls FC, suffered a narrow 2-1 defeat against Wingz Police United in an exciting football showdown on June 13 at the Ambergris Stadium. The highly anticipated match, which featured a $5,000 cash prize for the winner, drew a large crowd and remained deadlocked until the closing minutes of regulation. The football night also included a match between Conquerors FC and Caye Caulker’s Survivor United.

Belize on the Path to Update its Protected Areas Plan with IOM and EU Support

The National Biodiversity Office (NBIO), under the Ministry of Sustainable Development, Climate Change and Solid Waste Management, has begun updating the National Protected Areas Policy and System Plan (NPAPSP), with technical support from IOM and funding from the European Union (EU), under an EU-IOM Integrated Border Management (IBM) initiative.

Select Senior Justices of the Peace Undergo Specialized Training to Strengthen Protection for Victims of Domestic Violence

The Attorney General's Ministry, in collaboration with the Belize Judiciary, the Family Court, and the Ministry of Human Development, Family Support and Gender Affairs, officially commenced a two-day training programme for Select Senior Justices of the Peace at ITVET in Belize City.

Police Investigating Fatal Motorcycle Accident in San Pedro

A motorcycle accident shortly after 10:30PM on Thursday, June 11th, left one man dead and another injured in downtown San Pedro. Police identified the deceased as 33-year-old Gilberto Ismael Noble, who suffered severe head injuries. The second individual, 23-year-old Vincent Donaji Canul, sustained a fracture to his right foot. According to a police report, Canul was driving the motorcycle when it collided with a golf cart, causing both riders to fall. Police have since issued Notices of Intended Prosecution to both Canul and the driver of the golf cart as investigations continue.

$47 Million Loan Approved for Early Childhood and Women’s Empowerment

On June 5th, the House of Representatives approved a US$23.5 million (BZ$47 million) loan from the International Development Association to fund Belize’s Early Childhood Development and Female Empowerment Project. Members of the House voted in favor of the loan during a session in Belmopan, endorsing a program to expand access to quality early childhood education and create greater economic opportunities for women across Belize, including in communities such as San Pedro.
