Belize Assumes CDB Leadership Role and Lands Major Climate Investment
On June 5th, Belize officially assumed the Chairmanship of the Caribbean Development Bank (CDB) Board of Governors and secured $20.2 million in climate resilience funding. The handover took place during the closing ceremony of the 56th Annual Meeting of the Board of Governors in Nassau, Bahamas. Dr. Osmond Martinez, Minister of State for Economic Transformation and Belize’s Alternate Governor to the CDB, accepted the Chairmanship on behalf of Prime Minister John Briceño.

Belize and Mexico Deliver 1,700 Tons of Humanitarian Aid to Cuba
On Sunday, June 7th, the cargo ship Asian Katra docked at Havana's port carrying 1,700 tons of food and humanitarian supplies jointly sent by Belize and Mexico. The vessel arrived as Cuba faces severe economic and energy hardships, with Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel confirming that the aid came from both countries to provide much-needed assistance.

$300K Emergency Relief Secured to Help Coastal Stakeholders Combat Sargassum
The Sargassum issue continues to affect Belize’s coastal communities. To better respond to this environmental phenomenon that impacts the tourism industry, a BZ$300,000 grant from the Belize Fund for a Sustainable Future has been made available to assist coastal businesses dealing with the buildup of seaweed along their beaches. The grant will support private-sector stakeholders significantly affected by Sargassum influxes, including those in priority coastal destinations such as San Pedro, Ambergris Caye, Caye Caulker, and the mainland communities of Hopkins, Seine Bight, and Placencia.

16 Pints Donated During Latest San Pedro Blood Drive
On June 6th, the San Pedro Community Blood Group hosted its routine blood drive at the Dr. Otto Rodriguez Polyclinic II in San Pedro Town. The event ran from 8AM to 2:30PM, welcoming residents who came out to donate and help replenish the island’s blood supply. Several islanders participated, and by the end of the drive, 16 pints of blood had been collected.
