To celebrate the first anniversary of the Government of Belize’s nationalization of lottery games, a special event will take place featuring a one-time raffle game called the “One & A Million Anniversary Jackpot.” The grand prize for this raffle will be $1 million.
According to Belize Government Lotteries Limited (BGLL), tickets for this special event went on sale on Monday, November 4th, and can be purchased from any BGLL sub-agent nationwide. Ticket sales will conclude on Friday, December 20th, at 9 PM, and the drawing will occur on Saturday, December 21st, at 10 AM. “Customers will choose a 4-digit sequence, similar to the jackpot number, with each ticket priced at $5.00. If there are multiple winners, the total prize will be equally divided among them,” stated a press release issued by BGLL.
Customers are advised that tickets will only be valid 30 days after the drawing date and must be completely legible, with the QR code and ticket number intact, to redeem the prize. “We encourage all players to safeguard their tickets to prevent any damage. BGLL thanks all players for their participation and encourages responsible play. All profits from the game will be donated to charitable organizations chosen by the Board of Directors.”
BGLL will distribute prize winnings directly at its office in Belmopan City. Starting December 23, 2024, prizes can be redeemed during regular business hours, Monday through Friday, from 8AM to 5PM.
On April 20, 2023, the Government of Belize (GOB) reviewed the conditions of Brads Gaming Group Ltd.’s exclusive license to operate the Government Lotteries. Following this review, the committee decided to revoke BGLL’s exclusive license due to significant material breaches of the license conditions, the Lotteries Act, and its regulations.
The sale of the Belize Government Lottery resumed on December 1, 2023, under the management of the Belize Government Lotteries Limited. This began with the Sunday Ordinary and Jackpot Lottery games, with the first drawing on December 3, 2023.
Since the takeover, the profits from the government lotteries have been allocated to finance the National Health Insurance Program. Additionally, BGLL profits support the Official Charities Fund (OCF), a funding mechanism established by the Government of Belize. The OCF provides financial assistance to government programs, civil society organizations, and charities that address various social issues in Belizean communities. These issues include homelessness, domestic violence, child protection, mental health, and support for older people, among others.
