Police Constable Jarrel Martinez, attached to the San Pedro Police Formation, completed a Section Commander Battle Course with the Belize Defense Force (BDF) on April 30th. The course, which began on March 9th, was designed to develop leadership, discipline, and operational competence.
The first phase of the Section Commander Battle Course consisted of comprehensive oral and practical instruction, including battle lessons and exercises aimed at recovery and enhancement. The training covered navigation, platoon routine drills, contact drills, and platoon organization within a conventional operating environment.
The second phase focused on field training and exercises, where candidates received advanced tactical instruction in preparation for the final training exercise. This phase included fighting in built-up areas, internal security operations, and conventional offensive and defensive operations.
Commanding Officer, Superintendent Egbert Castillo, congratulated Martinez on his achievement. He noted that the skills acquired through the BDF training will enhance Martinez’s professionalism and overall job performance. Castillo added that the knowledge gained will significantly contribute to policing efforts in San Pedro.
Martinez expressed gratitude to his colleagues for their support and acknowledged his superiors, pledging to continue working diligently in his duties.
Martinez has consistently been recognized for his efforts within the police force. His recent recognitions include being named Officer of the Month in September 2024. He was also among the awardees in January 2025, recognized for outstanding performance during the last quarter of 2024.
Most recently, Martinez also completed a Non-Commissioned Officer Drill Course in March of this year. The three-week program brought together participants from several police formations across the country, including members of the BDF Volunteer Battalion and the Belize Coast Guard.
Like previous trainings, this program focused on strengthening leadership and instructional abilities among officers tasked with guiding members of the security forces and youth programs, such as the Police Cadets. The intensive sessions aimed to improve discipline, coordination, and confidence.
