Four teams battled in the first leg of the Island League semi-finals on May 2nd, delivering two intense matches at the Ambergris Stadium. Defending champions Sea Bulls FC faced Alaia FC in a dramatic draw, while Joker FC secured a strong victory over Shark Shooters FC.
The first match kicked off at 7PM between Sea Bulls FC and Alaia FC. From the opening minutes, Alaia appeared more in control, maintaining possession and setting the pace. Sea Bulls created several chances but failed to convert, while Alaia also missed key opportunities early on. The breakthrough came just before halftime, when Alaia found a gap in the Sea Bulls’ defense to take a 1-0 lead.
Alaia returned in the second half with renewed momentum and extended their lead to 2-0, putting pressure on the defending champions. Sea Bulls struggled to break through but stayed persistent. Their efforts paid off when they pulled one back with a well-placed shot from the left side of the pitch, catching the goalkeeper off guard.
As the match neared its end, Sea Bulls equalized with a long-range strike from the right side, leveling the score at 2-2. Both teams pushed for a winner in the closing minutes, but the match ended in a draw, leaving everything to play for in the second leg.
In the second match, Joker FC dominated from the start, quickly opening the score against Shark Shooters FC. Shark Shooters found it difficult to contain Joker’s attacking pressure and spent much of the first half on the defensive.
Joker extended their lead in the second half with two more goals, taking a comfortable 3-0 advantage. The match was briefly interrupted by an on-field incident that required police intervention. After playing resumed, Shark Shooters scored a late goal, but it was not enough to close the gap. Joker FC secured a 3-1 victory at the final whistle.
The second leg of the semi-finals is expected to be even more competitive, as the results will determine which teams advance to the tournament finals. Football fans are encouraged to head to the Ambergris Stadium this weekend to support their favorite teams.
