The San Pedro Volleyball Association will host another round of its Island Heat Classic beach volleyball tournament at Boca del Rio Park on Saturday, August 15th, starting at 8AM. The event will feature senior female teams competing in a two-on-two format, with cash prizes for the first-, second-, and third-place teams. The tournament follows the association’s recent completion of a volleyball training camp for children.
The tournament forms part of a wider effort to strengthen volleyball on the island and across Belize while creating more opportunities to develop local talent. Association member Zak Sajia said the event is intended to support the sport’s growth in San Pedro and encourage more players to participate in organized volleyball. He added that the association wants to build interest at the community level while helping talented athletes gain valuable experience through competition.
The San Pedro Volleyball Association expressed its gratitude to the tournament’s sponsors and supporters, including the San Pedro Town Council, KW Belize, Gold Foundation Construction, Sunbreeze Hotel, The Palms Oceanfront Suites, and other local businesses. Organizers said the Island Heat Classic is not only a competition but also a community event that brings together players, sponsors, families, and supporters of the sport.
The upcoming tournament forms part of the association’s year-round efforts to keep volleyball active in San Pedro and build a stronger foundation for those interested in the sport. Through regular competitions, training opportunities, and community involvement, the association hopes to continue developing local players while creating a more organized and sustainable volleyball program on the island.
Registration for the Island Heat Classic remains open. Interested teams can call or text 629-9434 to register.
