The San Pedro Volleyball Association hosted its Island Heat Classic Senior Female 2-on-2 Beach Volleyball Tournament on Saturday, August 15th, at Boca del Rio Park in San Pedro. The event ran from 8AM to 5PM and featured six teams competing in a double-elimination format for the top three positions and cash prizes.
The competition opened with several matches as the teams battled to remain in contention. Roshelly and Sheila faced Zee and Anne and claimed the victory, while Michelle and Jamaya defeated Heidy and Millie in two sets. Zee and Anne later faced Darina and Seidy in a three-set match, with Zee and Anne advancing. Connie and Muchita also defeated Heidy and Millie.
The six participating teams were Roshelly and Sheila, Zee and Anne, Michelle and Jamaya, Heidy and Millie, Darina and Seidy, and Connie and Muchita. Each team paid a $50 registration fee. The tournament formed part of the San Pedro Volleyball Association’s efforts to provide competitive opportunities for female athletes while keeping the sport active throughout the year.
After a full day of competition, Connie and Muchita advanced to the championship match against Darina and Seidy. Connie and Muchita dominated the final, winning in straight sets, 21–7 and 21–9, to claim the Island Heat Classic championship title.
Darina and Seidy finished second, while Michelle and Jamaya secured third place. Connie and Muchita collected the first-place prize of $650, while the runners-up received $350 and the third-place team earned $150.
The San Pedro Volleyball Association thanked its sponsors for helping make the tournament possible. Their support contributed not only to the cash prizes but also to providing lunch for the participating teams and volunteers who assisted throughout the event.
Following the success of the Island Heat Classic, the association plans to organize additional beach volleyball competitions, possibly as early as mid-September, to continue promoting the sport and provide more opportunities for local athletes.
