Donor Support Brings New Kennels and Catteries to SAGA Humane Society

Share

SAGA Humane Society recently completed upgrades to its shelter, installing new kennels and outdoor catteries designed to improve the comfort and well-being of animals in its care. The improvements, unveiled on August 10th, were made possible through donations and volunteer support from community members who helped fund, deliver, and assemble the new structures at the San Pedro facility.

Catteries

The kennel donation came from Kit Wrede and her partner, Brian, who provided several much-needed kennels suited to the shelter’s space and needs. Volunteers Pete and Mary Shaw assisted with the delivery and setup, ensuring the kennels were ready for use. Longtime volunteer and donor Rebecca McCarthy also funded and helped build two outdoor catteries, giving shelter cats access to fresh air and sunlight while expanding their living and enrichment space.

SAGA said the improvements address the shelter’s ongoing needs while providing a more comfortable environment for the animals. The new kennels offer secure housing for dogs awaiting adoption, while the outdoor catteries provide cats with additional space and a safe opportunity to spend time outdoors. These improvements can also reduce stress and provide more opportunities for socialization while animals await their permanent homes.

The upgrades are part of SAGA’s ongoing efforts to improve its facility and respond to the ongoing demand for animal rescue and care on the island. The organization relies heavily on donations and volunteer assistance to support its operations and carry out improvements at the shelter. Community contributions have played an important role in helping SAGA provide better facilities and care for rescued animals. “We are incredibly grateful,” SAGA stated, thanking Wrede, Brian, Pete, and Mary Shaw, and McCarthy for their support. “Your kindness will make such a meaningful difference in the comfort and well-being of our animals.”

SAGA emphasized that these contributions directly improve the daily lives of the dogs and cats in its care. With the new kennels and catteries in place, the organization continues its work to provide rescued animals with a safe and comfortable environment while they await adoption.
