San Pedro Pirates Draw 1-1 Against Port Layola

After winning two consecutive games at home, the San Pedro Pirates traveled to Belmopan on August 30th to face Port Layola in their first away game of the Premier League of Belize (PLB) Opening Season. The Week 5 match took place at the Football Federation of Belize (FFB) Stadium, where both teams battled to a 1-1 draw.
Port Layola went on the offensive from the start, scoring their only goal of the match during the first half. The 1-0 score held for most of the opening half as the island team searched for an equalizer—however, Port Layola’s defense held firm, denying San Pedro’s attempts. Port Layola nearly doubled their lead minutes before halftime, but the Pirates managed to keep the deficit at one goal heading into the break.
The San Pedro Pirates returned for the second half with renewed momentum, taking greater control of the ball and increasing the pressure on their opponents. Despite the change in pace, Port Layola continued to frustrate San Pedro’s attempts to level the score. The Pirates’ persistence eventually paid off when they found the back of the net to tie the match 1-1.
With the score level, both teams pushed forward in search of the winning goal. San Pedro continued creating chances, but neither side could break the deadlock. Despite several promising plays from the island squad during the closing minutes and added time, no further goals were scored, and the match ended in a 1-1 draw.
In other PLB action, Napoles delivered a commanding 5-0 victory over Benque United, while Progresso and Verdes also drew 1-1.
Following the latest results, the San Pedro Pirates sit in fourth place in the PLB standings with seven points. Verdes is third, also with seven points but ahead on goal difference. Port Layola sits second with eight points, while Progresso holds first place with eight points and a superior goal difference.
PLB action continues on Saturday, September 5th, and Sunday, September 6th, with matches scheduled on the mainland. The San Pedro Pirates will have the weekend off before returning to action on September 12th, when they travel to the mainland to face Napoles.
