A total of 18 Belizean fishing teams participated in the 27th annual Roatán International Fishing Tournament, held from September 10th through the 13th on the popular Honduran island. One highlight of the sportfishing tournament was San Pedro’s Carla Rodriguez, who competed with Team Carlie and captured the Best Female Angler title for the third consecutive year.
Another San Pedro team receiving recognition was Team Papa Changa, which finished fifth in the Billfish Category. Belize’s Team Sweet Caroline also secured third place in the Rodeo Category.
The tournament welcomed anglers from around the world, including 18 teams from Belize. On the opening day, Team Carlie and Team Papa Changa ranked among the top 10 after each registered a marlin in the Billfish Category. Team Sweet Caroline moved into third place on day two.
On the third day, Team Papa Changa placed third in the Billfish Category, while Team Cerca del Sol secured second place in the Rodeo Category. By the end of the tournament, no other female angler had surpassed Rodriguez’s opening-day catch, securing her third consecutive Best Female Angler title.
Rodriguez said she was happy and proud to have successfully defended her title at the international tournament. She looks forward to returning and competing for the honor again next year.
Team Reel Secret claimed first place overall in the Billfish Category, while Team Reel Addiction took the top spot in the Rodeo Category.
The Roatán International Fishing Tournament continues to serve as a major event on the Central American and Caribbean sportfishing calendar. Organizers noted that, throughout its 27 editions, the tournament has brought together anglers, crews, families, and visitors to celebrate world-class sportfishing, island culture, and community. The three-day competition offers an experience that extends beyond the water and highlights everything the island has to offer.
Teams and anglers are already being invited to prepare and register for the tournament’s next edition in 2027.
