Shelley Huber Prepares to Offer Free Culinary Training for Adults

Share

Shelley Huber is preparing to offer a free culinary training program for adults in San Pedro through Mama Vilma’s Family Home NGO. The upcoming program will be held at Huber’s home and focus on practical cooking skills, food preparation, and kitchen safety.
Huber explained that participants will gain hands-on experience through practical activities. The training will cover basic cooking techniques, the proper use of kitchen utensils, and safe practices when working with stoves and knives. Depending on the final arrangements, participants may be asked to provide some supplies.
The initiative follows Huber’s free culinary course for children, which concluded in April with 18 graduates. The program began with 25 children from different schools across the island and introduced them to cooking and the responsibilities of maintaining a kitchen.
During the course, the children prepared their own meals, completed cleaning and other kitchen duties, and shared the food they made. There was no registration fee. Mama Vilma’s Family Home provided the food, while Huber contributed her time and culinary instruction.
Huber said the children’s program demonstrated the value of practical learning and parental involvement. She also emphasized safety and discipline, teaching students to handle kitchen tools responsibly and use them only for their intended purposes.
According to Huber, the children gained useful skills from the experience, while she also learned from working with them. The adult program would build on that experience by extending culinary instruction to an older group within the community.
The proposed training could help participants develop meal-preparation skills at home and provide a foundation for those interested in employment or other food-related opportunities. Its practical approach would let participants learn by preparing food and completing kitchen tasks themselves.
Huber plans to announce further details, including the start date, class times, age requirements, registration process, and any supplies participants will need to bring.
