Emphasizing that community involvement is key to reducing crime on the island, the San Pedro Police Sub-Formation held a meet-and-greet with businesses in the San Pablo area on October 27th. Starting at 10AM, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Sheira Nicholas, Officer Commanding the San Pedro Police Sub-Formation, led the outreach alongside Deputy Commander of Operations Inspector Morris Castillo and community policing officers.
The visit formed part of a broader push by San Pedro police to strengthen community engagement. ASP Nicholas took command in September and pledged to hold regular meet-and-greets, school visits, and other outreach activities. Her approach combines enforcement with partnerships, reflecting the department’s focus on trust, communication, and cooperation with residents.
Officers visited businesses throughout the area, speaking with owners and staff about public safety, crime prevention, and ways the community and police can work together. The department said this outreach aims to build public confidence and encourage residents and businesses to share information and concerns directly with officers.
One notable stop was Graniel’s Construction & Cabinet Shop, where Mr. Graniel welcomed the officers and expressed appreciation for their presence in the area, offering his blessings and well wishes. During the visit, ASP Nicholas and Inspector Castillo received several crowd-control batons, which police said would support training in riot management and crowd-control techniques. The donation was described as a sign of community support for the police.
ASP Nicholas highlighted that open communication, timely information sharing, and strong partnerships with residents and business owners can help prevent crime and improve safety across the island. According to Nicholas, close relationships with the community allow officers to respond more effectively to concerns and address problems before they escalate.
Officers described the San Pablo meet-and-greet as another step toward stronger cooperation with the business community. Similar visits will continue across San Pedro as police work to build mutual trust and maintain a safer environment for residents, business owners, and visitors. Police have held previous meet-and-greets in other areas of the island, including San Mateo.
