The Belize Youth Movement (BYM) San Pedro Chapter hosted its Spooky Halloween Fair on Saturday, October 31st, at the former Black Pearl Restaurant and Fido’s courtyard in San Pedro. Children and families gathered for an evening of games, prizes, dancing and Halloween activities. Organizers said the event supported the chapter’s aim of providing safe, positive and inclusive spaces where children could spend time together.
Costumes, spooky decorations and entertainment formed part of the celebration. The fair featured a haunted house, food and drinks, games and a children’s costume competition, with an entrance fee of $5.
The costume competition included categories for cutest, funniest, scariest, most creative, and best homemade costumes. A baby dressed as Little Red Riding Hood won the cutest category, while a Michael Jackson costume and performance earned the funniest award. The scariest costume award went to a participant dressed as a nurse from Silent Hill.
Before the event, the chapter promoted the fair as a family Halloween bazaar, encouraging families to prepare their costumes and contact BYM members for tickets. Organizers said the gathering gave children opportunities to express themselves, build friendships, and take part in community activities.
“We wanted to have a night where children could simply be children,” said BYM member Francis Mendez. Organizers emphasized that children need more than places to gather; they also need environments where they can build friendships, discover talents and feel included.
“Sometimes, making a difference doesn’t require something extraordinary,” Mendez said. “Sometimes, it simply means organizing an event where a child can laugh freely, dance without worries, play with friends, and feel included.”
Supporters and sponsors included the Office of Minister of Blue Economy Andre Perez, TJ’s Variety, HABE Comfort, Xoties, Manellys, Rio Azul, Palm Supermarket, Casa Boheme, Divas and Dude, Letty’s Cake Studio, Allure, Heavens Veggie Shop, Zyva Beauty, Bowen & Bowen, Caye Printing Shop and Agua Dulce. Organizers thanked the volunteers, sponsors, parents, and others who helped make the fair possible.
Looking ahead, the BYM San Pedro Chapter called for more family-oriented activities, recreational opportunities, and community initiatives that place children at the center of San Pedro’s development.
