Food and Drug Administration Issues Advisory on Hand Sanitizers

The Ministry of Health is aware that an advisory sent from the Director of Health Services to the Customs and Excise Department is in circulation on social media platforms.

The internal correspondence is a notification of an alert issued by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) on sanitizers contaminated with methanol. Methanol can be toxic when ingested or absorbed through the skin.

The attached list of products has been tested by the FDA and found to contain methanol. Notably, all manufacturers on the list originate primarily from Mexico.

The Ministry of Health, based on International Public Health Regulations, hereby advises the public that all items listed below are banned and discontinued for use to ensure the safety of all citizens.
