Rough seas cause boat accident

On Monday, April 3rd, The San Pedro Sun confirmed reports of a boat turning over just north of a resort located two miles south of San Pedro Town. While the tour boat was reportedly deep-sea fishing outside the reef, a strong wave flipped the vessel, taking six persons overboard: two boat operators and four tourists.
According to San Pedro Police, the accident happened around 9:30AM, and the persons were rescued by another local tour company who brought the persons to safety. They were then taken to receive medical treatment, where their injuries were evaluated as minor injuries. In addition, the persons have not given a statement as of press time.
The San Pedro Police state that it is important for tour operators to ensure safe boating operations to avoid lawsuits or loss of life. All tour operators are strongly discourages from carrying out business when the sea and/or winds are rough. It is highly recommended for all tour operators to keep track of the tides, and wind gusts through the National Meteorological Service of Belize at www.hydromet.gov.bz
