A motorcycle accident in the early hours of Sunday, November 10th, resulted in the death of 30-year-old Eric Williams. The tragic incident occurred on Crocodile Street in the San Pedrito area, where Williams crashed into a lamppost, sustaining severe head injuries. According to an official report, the accident happened just past midnight. It stated that Williams, a carpenter from the DFC area, was riding a black and blue AKT motorcycle when he collided with the lamppost.
The police and the Rickilee Response and Rescue team assisted him. Williams had an open wound on his right eyebrow and was bleeding heavily from his left ear. In recent weeks, there has been an increase in fatal traffic accidents, particularly on the mainland. Survivors, medical professionals, and even the Commissioner of Police attribute this rise to unsafe driving practices. To address this issue, Chief Transport Officer Leon Gentle spoke to the media about the steps being taken to combat it. The transport department plans to collaborate with a consultant to develop manuals aimed at introducing a graduated driver’s license system. “This initiative includes an educational component, legislative improvements, and an emphasis on enforcement,” he explained. “We want to enhance enforcement in areas such as highways, rural regions, and hotspots related to motorcycle accidents and traffic incidents in general.” Additionally, the plan includes a proposal for regulations requiring the mandatory use of protective gear, such as helmets, when purchasing a motorcycle.
No comments were received from the San Pedro Traffic Department. However, motorists are urged to drive responsibly and exercise caution, especially at night. Drivers are also reminded to prioritize safety and avoid driving after consuming alcoholic beverages.
