A San Pedro businesswoman was injured when a golf cart overturned on the San Pedrito Highway in San Pedro Town at approximately 11AM on October 12th. According to reports, the driver lost control after attempting to avoid a puddle on the road.
Two women were traveling south along the highway when the incident occurred. Reports indicate the driver steered around the puddle but lost control as the golf cart returned to the roadway. The golf cart overturned onto its left side, injuring the businesswoman, who was driving.
She was taken to the Dr. Otto Rodriguez San Pedro Polyclinic II for medical treatment. The extent of her injuries had not been confirmed at the time of reporting.
The incident highlights the need for caution when traveling on wet roads. Rain and standing water can make roads slippery, and sudden steering movements to avoid puddles, potholes, or debris can increase the risk of losing control.
A member of the traffic department urged motorists to drive carefully during and after rainfall, when road conditions can become more difficult to navigate. “This is a reminder that even a small puddle can create a serious hazard,” one observer said. “Drivers need to slow down, avoid sudden steering movements, and give themselves more time to react when the road is wet.”
The accident also highlights broader traffic safety concerns in San Pedro, where a growing population and increasing number of vehicles put greater demands on the road network. As more streets are paved, clear signs, appropriate speed limits, and consistent traffic enforcement remain important measures for improving road safety.
Drivers also have a responsibility to adjust their speed and handling to changing conditions. A paved road can still pose hazards in rain, especially where standing water obscures the surface.
Golf cart drivers and other motorists should slow down, avoid abrupt steering, and stay alert for standing water and other road hazards. Allowing more time to react can help drivers navigate wet conditions more carefully.
