CCRIF SPC makes Payout to Belize for Excess Rainfall Event Associated with Tropical Cyclones Amanda and Cristobal
CCRIF SPC made a payout of US$203,136 to the Government of Belize on its Excess Rainfall parametric insurance policy following three days of heavy rains during Tropical Storms Amanda and Cristobal. Amanda was a tropical cyclone that originated in the Pacific Ocean and brought rains that affected Belize on 30 May and then weakened. However, the remnants of Amanda then reorganized to form Tropical Storm Cristobal in the Gulf of Mexico – thus becoming a cross-over cyclone from the Pacific to the Atlantic.

2 people were injured when a boat carrying 5 people crashed into the International Water Taxi Terminal. Police are investigating the cause, and damage assessment is being carried out.

Mexican Naval Vessel’s crash on the reef at Tuffy Channel believed to be caused by drifting buoy marker
It is believed that the marker buoy had drifted a little bit too much to the right of the Tuffy channel, sitting on top of the reef, causing the Mexican boat that used that buoy as a marker point to run aground the reef itself.

The Forest Department, the Department of the Environment and other agencies including the Fire Department, the Belmopan City Council, and the business community continue to join forces to fight fires around Belmopan and out west in the Vaca Forest Reserve.
