Isla Bonita Elementary School in San Pedro Town, Ambergris Caye, hosted its annual Cultural Day on April 30th, bringing together students, staff, and community members to celebrate Belize’s rich and diverse heritage. The vibrant event showcased nine distinct cultures and offered a hands-on learning experience focused on history, food, music, and traditions.

San Pedro Preschool Festival of Arts Showcases Young Talent

The San Pedro Preschool Festival of Arts was held on Tuesday, April 28th, at 10AM at Sagebrush Church, bringing together preschool students, teachers, parents, adjudicators, and education officials for a morning of performances and recognition. The event was organized by the Belize District Education Center, the Ministry of Education, Culture, Science and Technology (MoECST), the National Institute of Culture and History (NICH), and the Institute of Creative Arts. Estephany Pott served as Mistress of Ceremonies, and Dr. Odelia Caliz Kelly delivered opening remarks.

San Pedro students shine at the Festival of Arts

The Secondary School Festival of Arts, an annual national programme organized by the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, continues to provide a platform for young Belizean talent to showcase their creativity in music, dance, and performance. The initiative brings together secondary schools from across the country to compete at the district level, with top performers advancing to the prestigious Golden Showcase. This year’s San Pedro edition formed part of that national programme, highlighting the island’s contribution to the arts.

San Pedro Carnaval brings Color, Music, and Community Spirit

Carnaval de San Pedro, themed “Colores y Tradición,” unfolded over three days from Sunday, February 15th, to Tuesday, February 17th, organized by the San Pedro Town Council. Events were held at Central Park, featuring powder paint and foam parties hosted by DJ Dev, DJ Debbie, and Evolution Sound, along with live performances by the Bussa B Band. Comparsa dance groups paraded through downtown streets, drawing families, children, students, and visitors in a celebration of local culture.

As 2026 rolled into its second month, the first Art in the Park event of the year was held at Central Park in downtown San Pedro on February 6th and 7th. The event brought together local artisans and artists who displayed their work to the public and potential customers.

Camp Belize Returns to San Pedro Kicking Off 2026 Music Festival

Palapa Bar and Grill hosted the lively opening of Camp Belize 2026 on Sunday, January 18, at 7PM, bringing together music fans and artists for a meet-and-greet happy hour. Organized by Django Walker, son of late singer-songwriter Jerry Jeff Walker, the event marked the start of a week-long music festival running through January 25. Attendees enjoyed drinks, casual jam sessions, and the opportunity to meet Django Walker and fellow musicians, including Jack Ingram, Pat Green, and Eric Middleton. The full schedule includes daily shows at Palapa Bar, chill days, sold-out excursions, and signature pickin’ parties.

Holiday Magic on Stage as SPDA Dancers Perform Winter Wonderland

The San Pedro Dance Academy staged its annual Christmas show, themed “Dancing Through a Winter Wonderland,” on Saturday, December 13, inside the San Pedro Lions Den. The evening production, which began at 6PM, drew families and community supporters for a festive showcase of youth dance performances.

Houston Artists Bring Fresh Colour and Culture to San Pedro

Houston, Texas-based artists Alex Roman Jr. (donkeeboy), his mother Sylvia Roman (donkeemom), and a team of talented artists and photographers returned to San Pedro Town, Ambergris Caye, to paint a new collection of vibrant murals. The pieces, depicting culture, wildlife, flora, and themes of empowerment, form part of Free Walls, a project that promotes self-expression and the perseverance needed to achieve one’s goals.

Krismos Bram and Sambai earn UNESCO Intangible Heritage recognition

Belize’s Krismos Bram and Sambai tradition from Gales Point “Manatee” Village has been officially inscribed on UNESCO’s Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity, following a decision taken on December 9th at the 20th Session of the Intergovernmental Committee in New Delhi, India. The recognition marks Belize’s second entry on the list, following its previous entry for Garifuna Language, Music, and Dance.

San Pedro celebrates 2025 Garifuna Settlement Day

San Pedro, Ambergris Caye’s Garifuna community joined the national celebration of Garifuna Settlement Day with vibrant drumming, soulful dances, traditional food, and the symbolic Yurumein, the re-enactment of the Garinagu’s arrival in Belize in 1802. This year’s public and bank holiday, observed on November 19th, was celebrated under the theme “Wabaronguóun lidan Garifunaduáü: iúnrahei warasan, agahabuda lun sánsiguaü, inebesei lun wanichigu,” which translates to “Garifuna Moving Forward: Honoring Tradition, Embracing Change, Strengthening Identity.”
