Presentation of the exhibition “The Alignment” by Nelson Young

The Embassy of Mexico hosted on Tuesday, December 17th at 6:30 pm, at the gallery of the Institute of Mexico in Belize City, the opening of the exhibition “The Alignment” with works by the Belizean artist Nelson Young.
The exhibition contains the most recent production that the Belizean artist has not shared with the public.
The work of Mr. Young is characterized by the strength and brightness of the colors, in this exhibition the artist departs somewhat from figuration and transports us into a world inspired by the Mayan glyphs symbols, he describes the show as: “an exhibition of indigenous art symbolic, where prophetically modern, contemporary and future Belizean art looms.”SAM_9506
Nelson Richard Young was born in Belize City on April 13, 1958 where he lived until age four where he then moved to Caye Caulker and currently resides.
At age sixteen he moved to Mexico and then to Canada, an experience that changed his life. He had contact with the art world in Toronto, Ottawa and other Canadian cities. Music festivals, art exhibitions, sports and life with a good family transformed Nelson Young, his interest in the arts and culture grew and began carving wood with a knife, broken glass and sandpaper, to win his first money as an artist.
In 1975, he moved to New York, where he lived for five years, returning to Belize when this country was born as an independent nation. In Belize he continued his artistic creation, inspired by the Rastafari movement and converting into that belief.
Young Nelson paints oils and acrylics since 1981, in Belize he met his first Wife Eve, Swedish, leaving Belize and went to live with her in Sweden where he lived for five years and continued painting and studying art. On his return from Europe he settled in Caye Caulker, Belize.
The exhibition “The Alignment” will remain open until January 17th, 2014. Entrance is free.
