The Ministry of Agriculture, Food Security and Enterprise held its two-day virtual annual general meeting (AGM) on April 29-30, 2021 at the National Agriculture and Trade Showgrounds conference room.
The objective of the AGM was to present accomplishments and workplans that will guide the Ministry in its planning, activities, and initiatives over the next 12 months. The workplans outlined the vision of the various departments and partner agencies to promote agriculture locally and to be more export-oriented under the new programmatic framework of vegetable and root crops, grains, traditional crops, and livestock, among others.
During the opening ceremony, Hon. Jose Abelardo Mai, Minister of Agriculture, Food Security and Enterprise, highlighted the role that agriculture plays in the Belizean economy when farmers produce more local product and reduce the food import bill. Minister Mai emphasized the role agriculture plays in the economy and the importance of working together with all directorates and partners to achieve all the goals of Plan Belize.
Present at the event were Mr. Servulo Baeza, CEO in the Ministry; program coordinators; and national and international partners in development.
