CIB's executive management and board of directors held formal meetings as well as met with their investment colleagues at TS Prosperity Group, a division of Treynor State Bank.

Caye Caulker entrepreneur produces alkaline water with support from a Guatemalan university

Caye Caulker resident Celina Jimenez is the creator of Island Fresh Water, a newly established business offering alkaline water in Belize. This business venture was made possible with the support of Universidad del Valle Guatemala (UVG) in Guatemala City through a pilot project geared toward developing women entrepreneurs from Guatemala and Belize. The program hosted in collaboration with the Center for Promotion of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises helped improve the entrepreneurs’ current businesses and products.

The Blue Economy promotes the sustainability of stone crab claws harvesting in Belize

The stone crab’s claws have become a delicacy in gourmet restaurants with increasing demand in areas such as Ambergris Caye off the northeast coast of Belize. A plate containing 1 1/2lb of cooked stone crab claws sells for up to US$42.50. The value of the overall industry, as per the Belize Fisheries Department (BFD), was around $125,000 for the local market. However, this number is expected to increase as exporting stone crab claws to other markets in the United States and the Caribbean starts.

El Salvador Approves Importation of Belizean Products

Following efforts by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food Security and Enterprise to open markets for Belizean products in El Salvador, the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock of El Salvador has informed the Belize Marketing and Development Corporation (BMDC) that a request for a pest risk analysis (PRA) for four commodities ─ carrot, citrus, onion, and pineapple ─ has been approved.
