San Pedro Cancer Society holds 2nd Annual Blood Drive

Share

The San Pedro Cancer Society held its second annual blood drive this past Saturday, September 17. All in all, 19 units of blood were collected, but there were over 50 people who swung by the donation center (Island Galleria) to attempt to donate. Many were unable to donate for medical reasons, but their good intentions are greatly appreciated.

There was also a rice and beans sale that netted $805. The funds will go to the Cancer Society’s savings account, where it will be disbursed as needed to patients for their travel/medication expenses. There are a few patients that are being helped by the society, but Monica Prevett, President, stated that the units of blood collected is not only available to these patients. Any island resident that is in need of blood for emergencies and surgeries may contact Prevett at 665-0611 or Miguel Perez at 670-1293.

The Society would like to thank the following people/businesses for their generous contrubitions to the blood drive: Victoria House, Banana Beach Resort, Lions Club, Sergio Gomez (Mousepad), Martha’s Ice, Tropic Air and our beautiful Miss San Pedro, Yakarelis Hernandez.

Look for the Cancer Society Booth at the Independence Eve Block Party on Barrier Reef Drive. Swing by and show your support, buy raffle tickets (prizes include spa treatments, photo shoots and more), snacks and desserts. The booth will also sell Heineken exclusively for the night, as well as Heineken promotional products and more. All funds raised will go towards helping current cancer patients. Come by and show your support!
