Annual Caribbean Christmas Colors Contest celebrates unique Belizean homes

Share

It was a holly jolly night as merry judges Rebecca Coutant, Charlene Woods and Rene Guzman, along with The San Pedro Sun staff and their guests rode around town on Saturday, December 15th taking in the sights of the island’s festively decorated houses. Riding on golf carts adorned for the Christmas season, the judges inspected and noted every lit up house and business around town. As the mini parade drove around each neighborhood, children flocked at the sight of the Christmas ‘sleighs’ and in the spirit of holiday sharing, were treated to handfuls of candies.
The houses were truly amazing; displaying creative forms of decorations, each one unique in its own little special way. It was an arduous task for the judges as they searched for houses that best portrayed the ten different categories: Judges Choice/Best Overall, Most Creative, Best Theme, Jan Jensen Memorial Award, Editor’s Choice, Mrs. Claus’ Choice, Honorable Mention, Neighborhood Star, Best Business and Business Honorable Mention.
After touring through the town and venturing to many areas including Boca del Rio; San Juan, the Town Core, San Pedrito and all the way through Escalante and DFC, the judges regrouped and chose the fortunate winners.
First and foremost, The San Pedro Sun would like to take this opportunity to congratulate every single individual that took the time, energy and dedication to help to spread the Christmas joy through their colorful and bright decorations. The lights were absolutely beautiful and while all the houses were winners by adding abundant holiday cheer to the community– the judges could only choose so many. All three judges agreed that their job that night was quite difficult, but in the end the winners of The San Pedro Sun’s 2012 Caribbean Christmas Colors Contest are as follows:
Judges’ Choice/Best Overall – Joanna Acosta (Escalante Subdivision), Best Theme – Eddie and Ina Alamilla (Escalante Subdivision); Most Creative – Jorge Acosta, DFC (Belizean Christmas Tree); Jan Jensen Memorial Walter Daniel Cruz, DFC (Simple and Sweet); Neighborhood Star – Dora Gonzalez (Escalante Subdivision); Honorable Mention – Nelly Gomez, Pescador Drive (Indoor decor); Mrs. Claus’ Choice – Elder, Corina & Khalen Alvarez (Airstrip Area); Best Business – Thomas Hotel (Barrier Reef Drive); Business Honorable Mention – Dr. Lerida (Coconut Drive) and Editor’s Choice – Armando Graniel (Pescador Drive).
