Maestro Carlos Perrote has announced the dates of the 2nd Annual Summer Music Camp. Last year, the children of San Pedro participated in the first camp, which was a huge success, and allowed children the opportunity to have a productive summer while learning the fine art of music. There was no doubt that the camp would become an annual summer activity. 2014’s camp will take place from July 26thto August 15that the San Pedro High School campus. Even more exciting news is that this year adults can join in on the fun too!
Leading the camp once again is the talented Cuban, Carlos Perrote. Perrote has successfully published three albums in his career as a musician: Twin Boy, OMOLEWA OSAIN and Cuenta Conmigo. He is a well know musical figure in San Pedro, and throughout Belize. Since the first music camp, Perrote has been giving weekly Saturday classes at the Little Angels Pre-school on vocals, guitar and keyboards. Perrote’s aim is to instill a passion in children for the art and culture of music.
Scheduled from Monday to Friday, the classes will be divided into three divisions. The beginner’s class for the younger children will take place from 8:30AM to 10AM. Classes for teenagers (12-18) and adults will take place from 10:30AM 1o 12 noon. In the afternoon, classes will be held from 1PM to 2:30PM for advanced students between the ages of six and 11. As per usual, students will be taught basic elements of music, music handwriting, music notes and much more. Students will also learn to play the Steel Pan, Afro-Cuban Percussion and Garifuna Percussion. The cost for the three week program is $180 and payments can be made in two deposits.
Also a new addition to the Summer Music Camp will be Saturday classes for specialized instruments. Classes schedule is as follows: guitar classes from 8:30AM to 10:30AM and keyboards from11AM to 1PM. These classes will be offered for children of all ages, each child must bring their own instruments. The program will include three classes for $120.
Following the weeks of instruction, on August 15th a concert will be held at the Angel Nunez Auditorium starting at 10AM, and will showcase the participants of both the music camp and the students of Perrote’s weekly music classes. Everyone is invited to come out and support the young artists at the free concert.
