The seven contestants include both current councilors and some newcomers in politics. Mayor Daniel Guerrero (realtor) is running for a second term of office as well as councilors Gabriel “Gaby” Nuñez (contractor) and Severo “Severito” Guerrero (dentist). Joining the UDP slate are Hector “Tito” Alamilla (Postal Clerk II), Flora Ancona (Office Clerk), Gary Greif (Businessman) and Ruben Gonzalez (Accountant).
32 UDP Slate“We wanted to have a good combination of experienced people and young dynamic candidates. We also took into account the factor of having some of the candidates re-contesting and some new faces in politics. It was an extensive process, but at the end of the day, our team is well rounded and represents a combination of talented, well experienced, dedicated and hardworking people,” said Mayor Guerrero.
The incumbent UDP Mayoral Candidate explained that having accomplished most of the mandate entrusted to them, the UDP remains strong and committed. “We have not lost focus of our responsibilities and we have worked without stopping. Be it in culture, or sports, street infrastructure, in education and even social events, our presence is always there. We have kept a very good relationship with all the NGOs and we are always open to new ideas. This council has kept active since it was elected to office, and so we believe that our party has a very good opportunity of getting re-elected to office.”
The UDP has been in office for 11 uninterrupted years on Ambergris Caye. They have not lost a single municipal election since 2003 when Elsa Paz was elected as the first female Mayor of San Pedro Town.
