Marco Gonzalez Summer Solstice Event Cancelled for 2017

Monday, June 19th, 2017

Press Release – Marco Gonzalez Maya Site – June 19, 2017 – “We just can’t fight Mother Nature. It got us this year,” stated event organizer Jan Brown, Founder/Chairman of the Board for Marco Gonzalez Maya Site Ambergris Caye (MGMSAC), Ltd. “With one tropical depression over the area bringing in unfavorable conditions, and another on its’ heels, I just can’t have the event close enough to the Solstice date to make sense. Maybe we’ll have a “summer festival” instead”.
MGMSAC had scheduled Maya Priest Martin Choc to return from San Marcos area in Toledo to again do the blessing followed by the Yo Creek Masewal Cultural Dance Group to perform the lovely Maya dances. Volunteers were lined up to serve food and beverages as well as provide tour services around the site. “If you went on a tour in the past, you were in for a treat this year to see how it is transformed in many areas due to 360 degree cleaning of many mounds. You can really see the formation of the houses now,” says Ms. Brown. However, the current rain has wet the foliage so much that fires aren’t possible to thwart off the mosquitoes, making the visit uncomfortable at this time.
