Update on the Food Assistance Programme

Share

The Ministry of Human Development, Social Transformation, and Poverty Alleviation hereby updates the public on the COVID-19 Food Assistance Programme.

Approved households who have already received their first food basket will receive notifications by text or WhatsApp informing them of their continued eligibility and the information needed to collect their baskets. There is no need to reapply; however, bear in mind that approval for continuous assistance is not automatic. Only households that receive the notification should go back for their second baskets.

The public is also reminded that the Food Assistance Programme is targeting households affected by COVID-19. Public officers, teachers, and members of the security forces are therefore not eligible for this programme. Additionally, recipients of the Unemployment Relief Programme, non-contributory pensions, and the BOOST and food pantry programs are also not eligible.

The public is asked to refrain from contacting assessment officers as it hinders their ability to serve the needs of both existing and potential beneficiaries.

The Ministry continues the process of assessing the tens of thousands of households that have applied for this assistance.
