Yakarelis Hernandez was sworn in as the new president of the Rotaract Club of Ambergris Caye. The handing over ceremony was held on Saturday, July 11th inside Enigma in downtown San Pedro, where the 2020-2021 Board of Directors was also sworn in.
The event was marked with a reception, speeches and the presence of special invited guests including the newly installed president of the Rotary Club of Ambergris Caye, Gregorio Najarro.
The event was presided by Rotaract Gian Rivero, who invited the outgoing Rotaract president Kyle Vasquez to the podium for his farewell speech.
Vasquez commented that the past year was marked with commitment, dedication and perseverance from all members of the club. He added that with the new challenge of the COVID-19 pandemic the young club continues joint efforts in helping the community with education on how to deal with this global crisis.
Vasquez’s days with the club are yet from over, following his presentation he was sworn in and pinned as Assistant Representative for Belize (Rotaract District/Distrito 4250) by Bruce Flowers of the Rotaract Club of Belmopan.
Afterward, Vasquez welcomed three new members to the club, Elina Palma, Savanna Nuñez, and Gian Rivero. The outgoing Board of Directors then stepped to the front and were commended for their hard work over the past year.
Next, Vasquez swore in the new Board of Directors, comprised of Yakarelis Hernandez – President, Yvania Cab – Vice-President, Ivan Levy – Treasurer, Kaira Vasquez – Secretary and Professional Development Director, Marlon Guardado – Community Service Director, Gian Rivero – Club Service and International Service Director, Imer Cordova – Finance Director, and Kyle Vasquez – Past President.
Hernandez was then presented with the presidency of the club and gave her first speech as the head of the Rotaract Club of Ambergris Caye. She reflected on the achievements over the past year and commended everyone’s hard work in the club. “All of this could have never been possible without you. You all are the support and foundation of this club,” she said. Hernandez presented some tokens to each one of the new directors and also gifted a special present to outgoing president Vasquez.
Following a slideshow of the activities within the club for the past year, president of the Rotary Club of Ambergris Caye, Gregorio Najarro shared a few words with the attendees. He commended the young club for their continued success and encouraged them to continue aiming high and making a difference in the community. They were also reminded that they have all his support whenever they may need a guiding hand.
Closing the event was incoming Vice-President Cab with the vote of thanks. She thanked everyone for taking their time and attending the event and hope for another successful year in the club. A reception followed, while members and invited guests mingled for a bit.
Rotaract Clubs bring together people of ages 18-30 to exchange ideas with leaders in the community, develop leadership and professional skills, and have fun through service. In communities worldwide, Rotary and Rotaract members work side by side to take action through service.
