Ambergris Caye Fishing Guide Association seeks donations to continue providing for their members

The Ambergris Caye Fishing Guide Association has been helping its members with food items during the current health crisis. The association has been able to provide groceries to their fishing guides via donations, and they are asking potential supporters to aid their cause. For more information, its secretary Giovanni Marin can be reached at phone number 600-4737 or donations can be made to their GoFundMe Account.

The fishing group joined the other organizations on the island like the tour guide and tour operators’ associations who have been helping their members. After the COVID-19 pandemic collapsed the travel industry, and with it, tourism in Belize, fishing guides have been jobless since March. Taking care of their families has become a daily challenge, and beyond fishing for food and perhaps to make sales, it simply isn’t enough for many fishing guides.

Marin is reaching out to local and international potential donors for their support. The plan is to provide weekly food hampers until the situation gets better. Grocery bags are distributed to the fisher guides at the Hol Chan Marine Reserve conference room.

The last registered distribution was at the end of August. Members have been asked to share the GoFundMe page with their acquaintances to attempt to generate the necessary funds to continue the feeding program. The association takes this opportunity to thank those that have donated so far. They hope to be able to continue this project and help their members.
