After working for The San Pedro Sun for more than fifteen years, Associate Editor Mary Gonzalez has resigned. On April 11, 2005, Ms. Gonzalez was hired for newspaper layout and graphic design, where her sense of style and personality defined our media presence within the community. In 2012 she was promoted to Associate Editor, where she was instrumental in editing and cultivating both the news and travel aspects of our publications.
Recognizing her talent for writing, The Sun also tapped into her skills as a wordsmith. Ms. Gonzalez added her charismatic touch when writing for our weekly San Pedro Sun Visitor Guide and later contributed to our monthly travel publication, My Beautiful Belize. From rappelling down cascading waterfalls to diving into the depths of Belizean cuisine, her pros took us places only she could eloquently describe. Sometimes suffering the arduous task of “judge” at community events like the spelling bees, Saga Halloween Spooktacular party, and of course the ever-delicious Lobsterfest, Ms. Gonzalez was always a shining star who represented The Sun well.
San Pedro Sun editor Tamara Sniffin lamented, “Although she will be greatly missed, we recognize that there are many great possibilities for Mary in the future. Working with her has been a privilege, and her humor and generosity was a benefit to us all. She will forever be a part of The San Pedro Sun family, and we sincerely thank her for her years of service. While it is true that “all good things must come to an end,” we will always have memories of the fun times and wish her the best in the future.”
