The current curfew, Sundays to Thursdays from 10PM to 5AM, and Fridays and Saturdays-midnight to 5AM, will continue for another 30 days. The extension was announced on Saturday, May 15th by Commissioner of Police (ComPol) Chester Williams.

The ComPol took to social media to update Belizeans, who were asking about the curfew. The update referred to the new Statutory Instrument (SI) No. 52 of 2021. According to the SI’s regulation 2 under sub-regulation (1) indicating that a curfew was to be imposed for 30 days commencing May 15, 2021. Everything else remains the same- bars, rum shops, and nightclubs are to stay closed. Mask wearing is a must, proper hand hygiene, and social distancing. The previous SI gave provisions for the re-opening of casinos, gyms, and non-contact sports. Contact sports are allowed, but only for training sessions.

ComPol Williams asked Belizeans to continue adhering to the COVID-19 safety protocols and stay free of the deadly virus. The Ministry of Health and Wellness continues to promote and execute the distribution of the Oxford AstraZeneca vaccine against the disease. Up to now, more than 52,000 Belizeans have received the jab. The country also received another batch of 33,800 doses on May 12th to continue the vaccine rollout countrywide.
