Valentine’s Day on February 14th is all about love and sharing. In San Pedro, Ambergris Caye, the occasion included deals at the different businesses in town and student participation in a parade.
The San Pedro Roman Catholic Primary School students joined other Catholic schools nationwide in a love walkathon. The students wore red shirts and paraded through the main streets of San Pedro Town. The school’s marching band kept the momentum and ambience as they celebrated the occasion. At the end of the march, other activities continued at the school.
Meanwhile, in the heart of town, several islanders were observed getting flowers and other items to take for their loved ones. At some outlets on Barrier Reef Drive, people purchased roses, sweets, and Valentines-themed baskets for that special person. The same activity was also noticed near the John Greif II Municipal Airport and Coral Angel Street, to name a few locations. In most cases, the items included flower centrepieces, red roses, teddy bears, bags with lovely goodies, and even customized flower bouquets with a bottle of wine included.
Some people shopping shared with The Sun that Love Day should be every day, but February 14th has a different feeling because of the tradition. One young man said the occasion is like Christmas or a birthday when you celebrate love and friendship to the next level. The businesses claimed that sales were good and thanked the patrons for supporting them.
While there was a parade and daytime shopping to celebrate Valentine’s, the night brought a different scene. Several restaurants in town prepared stunning menus dedicated to this extra-loving period of the year. Several couples found themselves at their favourite eatery and enjoyed a romantic dinner. Others exchanged gifts to elevate the sweetness and passion of their bond.
