San Pedro welcomes 2025 with a big celebration on the beach

Share

Residents and visitors of the island gathered at the central park in downtown San Pedro to bid farewell to 2024 and welcome the new year. The New Year’s festivities occurred on Tuesday, December 31st, and included an extravagant celebration organized by the San Pedro Town Council (SPTC). The event featured live performances, culminating in a spectacular fireworks display by the beach.
The annual activities to welcome the new year included events throughout the town, as local establishments held New Year’s Eve parties. One of the highlights is the SPTC countdown party at Central Park, where the Caribbean Riddim Band performed at 8PM and continued until the early morning hours. Attendees purchased plenty of food and drinks, and as midnight approached, more people flocked to the park and its surrounding areas. People danced to the live music and took pictures with the Christmas tree and other seasonal decorations in the park.

As midnight approached, Mayor Gualberto ‘Wally’ Nuñez, accompanied by Councillor Adaly Ayuso, his team, and Miss San Pedro 2024-2025, Alexa Acosta, took to the stage to begin the countdown for the new year. When the clock struck midnight, islanders and tourists joyfully welcomed the new year as fireworks lit up the skies over San Pedro.
The celebration continued with additional performances from the Caribbean Riddim Band. This year, unlike in previous years, there were no official ceremonies, formalities, or speeches by the Mayor or Area Representative. Traditionally, local leaders use this opportunity to deliver their New Year addresses, share plans for the upcoming year, and report on the status of the local administration.
Other New Year’s Eve celebrations throughout the town included special dinner offers at local restaurants and beach parties along the shore. Additionally, the San Pedro Lions Club hosted its annual New Year’s Eve Party, where revelers danced to the music of the Caribbean Kings Band well into the morning, not stopping until 8AM.
The San Pedro Police Formation was present to ensure everyone’s safety and reported no major incidents during the celebrations. They would like to thank everyone for celebrating responsibly.
The SPTC thanked their staff, the island’s Fire Service, local emergency services, volunteers, and the San Pedro Police Formation for maintaining law and order throughout the weekend. Overall, no significant incidents were reported during the celebratory festivities.
The San Pedro Sun wishes everyone a happy and prosperous 2025!
